What’s In My Bag: 16-35L

What’s In My Bag: 16-35L

Today is the first day of a new series I’ll be sharing on Thursdays since I’m done with the purple “About Me” boxes :-) I always LOVED reading these posts on other photographers blogs, and I am really excited to start it now too!

I want to be really careful about this though. In no way, shape, or form, am I saying that these lenses are the “right” lenses. I’m just saying that they’re what I have found to work best for me. I have bought, rented, and borrowed other lenses and narrowed down to these 5 that I think best work for my style and the way that I like to shoot. I always want to be really careful of giving the appearance of just talking about the pretty new shiny things instead of real issues. Jasmine talked last week about this at theFIX and I do not want to shy away from the hard things. I won’t lie and say this has been easy, it’s been a process. And it’s hardly over…I can promise you that! So just for once a week, on Thursdays, for the next few weeks I’m going to talk about what lenses I have and what I use them for. We’ll work from the wide angle on in :-)

The widest angle I use is the 16-35L lens. This is the only zoom lens I use. It’s amazing for ceremony settings, and venue shots. It’s really fun for capturing architecture….not so much for portraiture. I definitely do not frequently use this with people (unless they’re in the center of the frame) because it distorts around the edges when it’s any wider than 35mm…but it’s such a pretty lens for everything else! This is Wil’s absolute favorite lens and when he second shoots for me, you can guarantee it’s on his camera more than anything else.

Here are just a few sample images with this lens!

Happy Thursday! I’ll be back next week with the 35L (my absolute tied-for-favorite and go-to lens) :-)
