What’s in My Bag: 100mm 2.8L

The 100mm 2.8L. I don’t think I could probably sing enough praises about the versatility of this lens. I use this lens for engagement and Beloved sessions, and weddings. If I were to ever pack only three lenses, it would be the 35mm the 85mm and this. I love love love macro. If I’m going on a walk, or going outside just to take pictures for fun, I would pack this and the 35mm. They are both tack sharp focusing much closer to objects and people than any of my other lenses.

Thinking through this lens’ limitations I could really only come up with two. First, that the aperture only opens up to f2.8. This isn’t ideal in low light scenarios. Also, that the lens can be slow to focus. Please bear in mind that it can focus from two or three inches away from the subject to a football field away….so the fact that it takes a couple seconds makes sense. I just have to remember while I’m using this with portraits to consecutively focus on things that are kind of close to each other…nothing moving quickly :-) Otherwise though this lens is stellar. I use it for all of the fun ring pictures, and it’s a great portrait lens too. I will use this in a ceremony (or the 85, or the 135), depending on the space. On to the pictures! As always, please feel free to ask me any questions.

Okay! Next week is the 135L, my last lens for now :-) (tomorrow we’ll be drinking on the blog ;-))
