We’ve talked about my teaching Wil to shoot in manual for a really long time, but for some reason, it just hadn’t happened yet. One of my favorite parts of the trip was starting to teach him, and seeing how fast he could apply the settings to accomplish what he wanted with pictures. He already knew all of the basic settings aperture/ISO/shutter speed, and he actually owned a film SLR back in the day, but he didn’t have the patience to wait for the film to develop to see how playing with the settings changed things and how they all really interact with each other. Digital makes that teaching process so much more fun and fast to understand! Please pardon the iPhone snap, I only brought one real camera on the trip and he was clearly using it!
One of his pictures :-)
Next trip I think I’ll have to bring two cameras! It felt so good to be able to teach him part of what I do, and for him to appreciate it. Do you and your significant other share parts of your jobs? Do you share common, practical interests? I’d love to hear your thoughts :-)
