Green Smoothie Joy

Green Smoothie Joy

You guys! I know I mentioned that I’ve started drinking green smoothies last week, I’m here to say now that it’s a full blown healthy addiction! I’m drinking one or two every single day (I’ve even mapped out the closest three places that make green smoothies to our hotel in Miami). I feel so good about this healthy snacking! Most days I’m mixing them up at home, but every once in a while I treat myself to a fancy one from up the street at Green Corner. The problem now though, of course, is that I’m dying to get a vitamix. I haven’t decided if I need to maintain this for a certain amount of time to justify the purchase, or if it will be some other healthy reward after I save up my pennies. My amazing trainer Leigh provided me with some stellar recipes/guidelines right from the beginning, but I’ve ventured beyond those now to basically combining most of the fruits/veggies/juices I have laying around. Surprisingly, almost every combination has been delicious! I really expected to taste the kale and spinach since it’s so GREEN, but I really don’t. Anyway, all of this to say, if you haven’t tried mixing up your own green smoothie yet, I promise it will be worth your while. And if you have, go you! I feel like I’m way behind the healthy train on this one :-)

If you’re just getting started, these are the instructions I actually just emailed over to my mom. I realized they might be helpful for some of you too! If you’re an expect would you might taking a peek at these directions and letting me know if you do anything differently? I’m still super new at this!

I start with liquid whether it’s orange or pure pineapple juice and some water, and half an avocado and pulse that, then I’ll add greens at whatever pace the blender can handle. I typically end up adding two big (foot long) pieces of green kale and a big overflowing handful of spinach (at least a cup), and then whatever other fruit/veggies I want. Apple/cucumber/mint/etc. Feel free to add ice and water to if the blender needs more liquid and for a better consistency. I’d also highly suggest drinking it with a straw instead of just normally out of the glass :-)

This is the first delicious “recipe” option from my trainer that I tried: kale & spinach & juice from half of a lime & half an avocado & half orange or orange juice, or some pineapple juice & cilantro

If you make green smoothies, what are your favorite combinations? I’m super curious to try everything new!
