Glazed & Infused » Chicago Donut Lover

Welcome back! I hope you had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend :-) I worked Saturday & Sunday but actually took Monday off completely. No emails, no editing, no blogging, no client meetings or sessions. I love what I do so very much but having that break was wonderful! And now I’m back, and much better rested :-)

Over the weekend I went with Wil to check out Glazed & Infused. The delicious new donut walk-up in Wicker Park. It’s inside Francesca’s Forno in the mornings, literally just across the street from the Damen Blue Line stop.

They have a delicious array of flavor options, and I have enjoyed everything I’ve tried so far. I just need someone a little bit more adventurous than myself to get the bacon one! I’m not typically a jelly filled donut person…but I asked about theirs and since it’s all fresh ingredients, I decided to give it a try. OMY you guys….this is what fresh fruit inside a donut tastes like! SO delicious. My absolute favorite so far is the lemon cake donut. It’s just so good! I also really really like the peanut butter & jelly one. Mmm just thinking about these right now is making me hungry for them again!

The ladies working were too sweet and let me step inside to take a few pictures of the donut racks! Because it was just too nice outside, Wil and I ran to 7Eleven for milk and then sat out on the wooden benches at Big Star to eat!

If you haven’t been yet, definitely check it out! If you have, I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments :-) What about you all though! How was your weekend? Happy Tuesday!

The Office at Next Restaurant and Aviary

Saturday night we went to The Office for Wil’s birthday. We went with Mike & Ashley, who I briefly mentioned yesterday. Wil & I had been to The Office for one drink after we dined at Next for the El Bulli menu….but we were both already so full and tired that it wasn’t as special. Saturday we had so much fun though! I can’t want to show you the pictures. First, they had a whole page of gins! Talk about options.

I love the layered rugs. Don’t forget the key to get back in when you go to the bathroom or you’ll be locked out!

Oysters with tinctures of different flavors!

 ICE CREAM SUNDAES!!!!

A hot wax sealed, handwritten calligraphy cheque. And a walnut apéritif.

 Happy Tuesday!! XXOO

Chicago Dreaming

Saturday night we went to “The Office” with some dear friends Mike & Ashley to round out Wil’s birthday celebrations. I’ll post pictures from there sometime this week, but something really struck me on our walk after we got back and I had to blog about it. Mike & Wil walked ahead as Ashley & I lolligagged in our heels and chatted incessantly. It’s so funny because we were talking about putting down roots in Chicago, and what we want that future to look like when we walked past the sweetest little front yard dinner party. At first I walked past and in true form whispered to Ashley about how much I love that…then I thought better of it because I knew I really wanted to take a picture. She and I turned around and I casually asked if I could snap a photo. You see, this symbolizes so much of what I want, and really what I have. And I think it’s pretty cool that those things seem to be lining up. This is what I love about Chicago in the summer. About living in the city. What I adore about making friends who love to cook….and talk a lot. And it speaks to why I’m do what I do. To build a life I enjoy, surrounded by friends. To sit and eat outside and just be. To encourage each other and grow together in life. To live in community and bless each other. To cook, eat, and enjoy delicious food together! ;-) Do you ever just walk by something and think oh! yes! that is awesome! This was one of those moments for me. I had to document it for myself, and I wanted to share it with you.

Do you ever have magical moments like this? Moments that just speak to you! I want to hear about them :-)

Happy Friday! Pretty Flowers in Bloom

Yesterday in my walking around the neighborhood I noticed so many beautiful flowers in bloom….but I wasn’t carrying my camera! This morning we had to get up early because Wil has a board meeting, so I walked the long way to Starbucks for breakfast treats and brought along my macro lens so I could document and share the beauty. I hope you have a wonderful Friday!! I’ll be working all day, then quickly grocery shopping and cleaning because we decided yesterday to throw a last minute little birthday grilling party for Wil tonight! I hope you enjoy these flowers as much as I do! XXOO

I love remembering Matthew 6 when I see beautiful flowers. They’re a good reminder for me not to worry or be anxious.

We are loved and precious in his sight!

Happy Birthday Wil

Wil,

My love. On this, the anniversary of your birth (and of my moving to Chicago ;-)) I don’t think I could possibly be any happier. I praise the Lord every day for the seemingly random and crazy facts of our lives that brought us both into this city and then into each others’ lives. You are my other half. I say this not just in the sweet, romantic way (that too) but because I know that I am who I am today because of you.

Thank you for being my cheerleader. My confidant. You bring a joy to my life that I had not known before.

Today, and hopefully every day, I celebrate you! I cannot wait to grow, learn, and spend the rest of our lives together.

Em

(Wil’s favorite picture of himself from the past year by the ever lovely Christy Tyler from my friend Julia’s wedding)
